Bringing home my first puppy

I've always wanted a dog. Growing up I've never really had any pets (unless you count the goldfish that I had for 3 days that I won at the fair), my parents weren't in favor of dogs at that time. And so, a new chapter in my life starts when I bring home Soon Hee, my mixed breed terrier.

My day had started out particularly ordinary, got up, worked, ate, etc, when my friend suggested I go look at a puppy. Her puppy's sister in fact! My friend has a yorkie chon (a breed of yorkshire terrier and bichon frize) and Angel was the size I would have liked to fit my lifestyle. Apparantely, there were only two puppies in the litter and it was a very healthy litter. I agreed because it didn't seem to hurt to go look at a puppy. I've been thinking about getting a dog for some time and I wanted a lovable, intelligent dog. I picked up my girlfriend & her puppy, Angel, and I drove into Reading, where my soon-to-be puppy was living.

As soon as I got there, I marvelled at all the land surrounding the house. Inside, the mother and father was just finishing up lunch with the kids (5 kids!). The ages ranged from about 2 years to 10 years. I pondered about the influences this little puppy would have gotten from these kids. Good or bad? My questions were soon to be answered, because the puppy soon made its appearance. O-M-G! As soon as I saw her, I knew that I was taking her home. She came over to me curiously and sniffed me. I took her in my arms and hugged her. I said to her, "Hi, I'm taking you home," and the rest was history. haha j/k, I wish it was that easy!!

The ride from Reading to Philly was about a hour and my newfound puppy was not happy. She was nervous and scared. I had just taken her away from her familiar surroundings. Surprisingly, she didn't bark once that day though. Luckily, my friend had brought a pee-pad (a training pad that kind of resembles a diaper), and layed it out on the floor of the first passenger seat. We've only driven for about 10-15 minutes when my puppy threw up. Aww poor thing! She probably was never in a car before! She threw up a couple more times after that. I was so worried!! My puppy was getting carsick! Here are some photos of Soon Hee with her sister, Angel. Soon Hee is the bigger fluffler puppy. They are both about 2 1/2 months here. Aren't they both so adorable?

The first thing we did as soon as we got to Philly was to take her to my friend's Vet. She got her 2nd vaccination shot (her first was done by the previous) and made sure she was healthy. Then we went to Monster Pets and bought her some pet supplies. Food, treats, a collar, leash, and a crate. I placed her in the basket so I could carry everything on my other arm. Big mistake! She barfed and peed in the basket. Ew gross!! Soon Hee needed a bath asap!

We took her to my friends place and the whole time she has gotten used to me and sensed that I was her mommy now. She stayed by my side, and was a bit more calm at this point. Angel was also there so that may have helped? I'm not sure if they remember each other but Angel and my puppy did come from the same litter and grew up for the first month and half with each other. Hmm...

Soon Hee was then placed in the bathroom sink and we lathered her up first with the flea shampoo (just in case) and then with regular shampoo. We combed her hair and gave her a trim because she was shagggyy. Her hair was all up in her eyes. Then it was play time with her sister, Angel.

That night I took her to my friends place and he got to meet Soon Hee. They bonded instantly too. She is quite the good puppy except the housetraining. She's friendly and rarely barks. I looove that shes doesn't bark quite as often as other little dogs do. Or what people say as "teacup dogs" Although my puppy weighed in at 3.45 lbs at the Vet's office, she will probably grow a bit more till shes reached adulthood.

I was so exhausted at this point that I fell fast asleep....so did Soon Hee! It has been a long day for the both of us!
