the morning after taping her ears

She woke up this morning and half of the tape has already been scratched off. Smart little girl, she hates anything on her. She hates her harness too! We are going to try a different strategy on this. Her right ear has already started to stick up though so thats a good sign! It is def not too late. Her left ear is still flopping a bit though. We trimmed up the hair on the other ear and it looks like it started to gain more strength and its starting to stick up a little. We retaped her ears again and hopefully this is all she needs for her ears to stick up on their own!!! :D

For some reason or another she started peeing on my bf's bed. how odd right? She has never done this before and just recently peed 3 times! We were not happy campers on that one.

to spade or not to spade

That is the question of the day. I spoke with my vet and he recommended I spade her for health complications later in life. She can get breast cancer and all sorts of health worries if we don't spade her.

My vet is trying to charge me $440 for this operation!

pet insurance or not?

VPI pet quoted me with 29.87 for the major medical plan that covers accidents, illness, and hereditary conditions. without the herediary conditions aka vpi medical plan, it quoted with me 23.17 with a $100 deductible. www.petinsurance.com

petplan for the bronze package quoted me with $100 deductible and 80% reimbursement for 27.40 premium. hm 90% reimbursement was 30.51 a month. hmmm $50 deductible is 39.07 for the premium. www.gopetplan.com

21.66 for 100 deductible and its only for the basic plan though.

vets visit

Soon hee was a good little girl when I took her to the vets to get her last vaccination shot and her rabies shot. I took her to the same vet i took her when i first got her and she seemed to remember him. Everyone was calling her a little stinker and how cute she was. funny because we call her our little stinker too. haha

She was really good when her first two shots were taken and they even gave her a treat! aww how nice. I might have to keep taking her there because everyone is so accomdating.

Joys of her toys

Soon Hee absolutely loves her toys.

1. pacifier chew toy
2. pig that oink
3. pink dog that squeaks (although it has been ripped apart and taken away from her)
4. raccoon that squeaks
5. chicken that screams bloody murder (hahahh)
6. duck that squeaks
7. purple spiked ball that squeaks
8. white belt (came off of my robe)
9. mini pink tennis ball
10. giant toy bone pillow (which she humps lol)

She loves to chase after her tennis ball (haven't quite learn to fetch yet). She absolutely loooves chasing after her purple spiked ball. She gets a kick out of it, and starts running around until she finds it again.

The raccoon, pig, chicken scared the crap out of her when we first presented it to her and now she's so aggressive with those toys. I'm thinking its because shes' like I can't believe you scared me you piece of toy!

hahahaha

I've also given her some rawhide bones for her to chew on as it stimultes her mouth and senses.

Wet or dry food

Soon Hee was on a dry doggie food diet while she was living at the Breeders home. As soon as I got her though, I gave her a mix of wet and dry. She absolutely loved it. I've been feeding her the wet and dry combo for a little over a month. When I went to visit my vet he told me that if I am feeding her the combo or all wet, I will need to brush her teeth because of dental problems that may arise later in her life.

Switched her over to royal canin yorkshire terrier puppy food...she looked at it, looked at me, and looked quite puzzled. I believe the look she gave me was..."where's my mouthwatering food!". aww poor kid. I forgot to transition her foods from her old to her new but she doesn't seem to be having any problems now.

She has always gobbled up her food so quickly with the comob of the wet. Now she nibbles on her food and then comes back to it.

Joy and Love of Soon Hee

You know I wasn't sure what to expect with her as she was my first pet everrr. She turned out to be a bundle of joy though.

She loves to follow me around while I'll do chores, etc. Loves to cuddle with me when she is tired (not when shes' playing)

And she is an overall very friendly and non barky type of dog. She barks when strangers walk by the door, she barks when she wants my attention because she has to pee/poop or she barks because she wants to be let out of her crate.
I love this little puppy and hope to lenghten her longevity to ensure she lives her full 15 years.

taping her ears

I've given her a hair cut twice since I've gotten her and each time I've forgotton to trim around her ears. She hates things anywhere near her face.

The cartlidge in her ear were not strong enough for her ears to stick up on her own. Her sister's ears have started sticking up on her own. I've research the internet to see what can be done to get her ears to stick up. It looks like a lot of people have recommended taping the ears and placing some sort of reenforcement to her ears to get it to stay up. first thing we did was to shave off part of her ear because she had so much hair there. The back of her ear was shaved and the insides were trimmed with small facial hair scissors.

We taped her ears! Pics to come. I will let you know on how it goes! lol 5 minutes later she got the tape out! haha of course, Soon Hee is one feisty little puppy.

this time around, we cut out pieces of cardboard from a cereal box shaped more like her ear and retaped it. it def came out sturder, so we shall see how this one playes out!

clicker training day 2

So we have been sprinkling in some clicker training with Soon hee in and around her play time. She really seems to be getting it but she hasn't quite mastered all the obedience commands that are coming her way.

Clicker Training

I just realized that there was a Petco down the street from my apartment when I have been driving 10 minutes up the street to Petsmart. The staff at Petco was highly professional and caring for the pet. They loved Soon Hee so much they gave us a free doggie treat for her! I signed up for a Petco card right away. I will get some cool offers! We purchased a clicker for her so that we can start training her out of her bad habits and reniforce good ones!

Amazing! Its working!

We first had to reinforce her behavior by clicking once she did "what was said" was right. Click. Then treat. She's starting to get it! Click=good behavior.

We started off with the basics she already knew. Sit, down, stand, and paw. Then we taught her a new one, "come." We also started her with the "other paw." She's slowly coming to understand that one. I can't wait till she masters all the basics moves! I'll keep you guys posted on how the training is coming along.
